The old make their last and ultimate pilgrimage to Varanasi, the ancient city of Kashi as it is believed that to be cremated in this holy city and have one's ashes scattered upon the Ganges is to ensure Moksha or salvation and an end to the karmic cycle of rebirth. When one dies in Kashi they say it is Shiva himself and his consort the dark Godess Kali who whispers in one's ear, the Taraka mantra, the ferryboat mantra or the mantra of the crossing.
Micky, This is such a tender and provoking photo of the woman. In the background is perhaps the remains of a once used basket but now almost looks like bones. Like the arms of KALI. Thank you ;-)
